A Tapping Script for Guilt Using EFT

GUILT AND STRESS

Guilt can be an overwhelming emotions that wastes our time and saps our energy.  Often the result of experiences on our life, it can lurk insidiously below the surface of our consciousness and create unhealthy stress.

Guilt can keep you stuck in a pattern of negative thinking and behaviours and when you are under its influence, you cannot make very loving or sound decisions.  If you look at all the underlying feelings that come with guilt, it is easy to see why it creates stress. Disappointment, anger, and grief can all become part of the dance with guilt.

I've created a tapping script to help you navigate through your guilt.  With this script you get started on reducing some of your own guilty stress. If you are new to tapping, click here to learn more.

Tapping calms your nervous system by halting the well known fight or flight response, a short burst of physiological reaction that protects us by generating adrenaline in threatening situations. Running from a bear or rescuing a child from an oncoming car are examples when this is good. The fight or flight response is meant to be only and emergency response and not one that continues for any length of time. Unfortunately, guilt and the associated stress can keep us in a constant fight or flight mode that is very unhealthy.

I did a test run of the script myself.  Even though I have been tapping, meditating, running energy and practicing other healing and spiritual activities for years, I know there is still always more to discover if you are willing. It is so freeing to lose the stress created by my our guilt. Healing is not linear with a direct line of thought or connection from one thing to another. Be open to exploring your own depths of stress and guilt.  You will clear out debilitating feelings and beliefs, while feeling lighter in your body and spirit.

GUILT TAPPING SCRIPT

  1. Make a list of things that you feel guilty about.

  2. Choose one to work with for this session. It is best to work on one area of a guilt at a time. Specific is better than general for best results.

  3. Write down the answers to the following questions You will use them in the tapping session.

    1. Why do you feel guilty?

    2. What is / was your fault?

    3. What is / was your responsibility?

    4. What could you have done differently?

  4. Tune into your body and your thoughts.

    1. Say the statement, “I feel guilty because _____________. How true does this feel on a scale of 1 - 10, with 1 being not at all, and 10 being very true. Write the number down.

    2. Rate you SUD - subjective unit of distress. How intense do you feel this? Rate it from 0 - 10. The higher the intensity of the feeling, the higher the number. Write the number down.

    3. Where do you feel this guilt in your body? What does it feel like? Write it down.

    4. What color is your guilt? Write it down.

    5. What shape is your guilt? Write it down.

  5. Now follow the script and insert your specific answers where there are blanks. Always feel free to use your own wording any time while tapping. You can replace the words in the script with your own, referring back to what you wrote down. Once you start tapping, you many have words come out of seemingly nowhere. Go with it. This is your inner guidance revealing answers and guidance for your tapping.

Before you begin lets’ review the tapping points.

  1. KC = Karate Chop. Take the fingertips of one hand and tap on the side of the palm of your baby finger.

  2. TH = Top of the Head. Using one or both hands, tap the top of your head gently with your fingertips.

  3. EB = Eyebrow Point. Using one or both hands, tap gently with your fingertips on either side of the bridge of your nose where your eyebrows end.

  4. SE = Side of Eye. Using one or both hands, tap gently with your fingertips on the side of your eye.

  5. UE - Under the Eye. Using one or both hands, tap gently with your fingertips underneath your eye at the center.

  6. UN = Under the nose. Using either hand, tap gently with your fingertips in the space under your nose and above your lip.

  7. CH = Chin. Using either hand, tap gently with your fingertips in the space under the lips.

  8. CB = Collar Bone. Using one or both hands, tap gently with your fingertips under your collar bone in the soft space beneath.

  9. UA = Under the Arm. Using one or both hands, tap gently with your fingertips underneath your armpit about where a woman’s bra sits.

TAPPING SCRIPT FOR GUILT

STOP. TAKE A FEW DEEP BREATHS. CHECK-IN.

Tune into your body and your thoughts.

  1. Say the statement, “I feel guilty because _____________. How true does this feel on a scale of 1 - 10, with 1 being not at all, and 10 being very true. Write that number down.

  2. Rate you SUD - subjective unit of distress. How intense do you feel this? Rate it from 0 - 10. Has the the intensity lessened? What’s the intensity level now? Write that number down.

  3. Where do you feel this guilt in your body? What does it feel like? Has that changed, lessened, increased, shifted, moved?

  4. What color is your guilt? Has that changed, lessened, increased, shifted, moved?

  5. What shape is your guilt? Has that changed, lessened, increased, shifted, moved?

  6. Hopefully you are feeling peaceful and your intensity level is less than 1. If you still feel any reactions, doubts, thoughts, feelings with the guilt, I suggest that you make notes, check in and do another round of tapping. Tap until you no longer feel guilt about this issue and feel This at peace.
